UPFluokitusta, also known as UPF rating, is a standardized system used to measure the sun protection factor (SPF) of sunscreen products. The UPF rating indicates how well a sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays, which are types of ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Unlike SPF, which primarily measures protection against UVB rays, UPF provides a more comprehensive assessment of overall sun protection.

The UPF rating is determined through standardized testing procedures that simulate real-world conditions. These tests measure the amount of UV radiation that penetrates the sunscreen and reaches the skin. The UPF value is calculated by dividing the amount of UV radiation that reaches the skin without sunscreen by the amount that reaches the skin with sunscreen applied. For example, a sunscreen with a UPF of 30 means that it blocks 97% of UV radiation, as calculated by the formula (1 - 1/UPF) x 100.

UPFluokitusta is particularly important for individuals who spend extended periods outdoors, as it offers broader protection against both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are responsible for aging the skin and can penetrate deeper into the skin, while UVB rays are the primary cause of sunburn and are more easily blocked by sunscreen. By using a sunscreen with a high UPF rating, individuals can better protect their skin from the harmful effects of UV radiation.
