UCDPPRIOs

UCDPPRIOs is a shorthand often used to refer to the UCDP/PRIO Armed Conflicts Dataset, a collaborative data resource produced by the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) at Uppsala University and the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). The dataset records armed conflicts from the mid-20th century to the present and is updated on a regular basis, typically annually. It covers interstate conflicts as well as intrastate conflicts and distinguishes between state actors and non-state participants when possible.

Each conflict entry in the UCDP/PRIO dataset includes a unique identifier, the conflict name, geographic location, participating actors, and a timeline with a start year and, if applicable, an end year. Entries also note the conflict type (for example interstate or intrastate) and an intensity level, such as war or minor conflict. In many cases, the dataset is linked with additional products from UCDP and PRIO, including information on participants and, where available, causes and key events.

The dataset is widely used in conflict research, political science, and policy analysis to study the onset, duration, termination, and scale of organized violence, as well as to enable cross-national comparisons and trend analyses. Data are freely accessible via the UCDP and PRIO websites, accompanied by methodological notes, coding rules, and documentation. Limitations include dependence on publicly available information, possible underreporting in certain periods or regions, and the need for careful interpretation when integrating with other data sources.
