Tévéshow

Tévéshow is a Hungarian-language term used to describe a television show, or any program produced for broadcast on television. The word combines tévé, a short form of televízió (television), with the English loanword show. In everyday media usage, tévéshow covers a broad range of formats, from entertainment and talk shows to game shows, reality series, talent competitions, and documentary or news programs. In more formal Hungarian, speakers may opt for műsor or televíziós műsor, but tévéshow remains common in media discourse and popular speech.

Formats and conventions commonly associated with tévéshow include recurring hosts, specific segment structures, and a season-long run of episodes. They can be produced as studio-based programs with live or recorded audiences, or as field-based productions. Genre distinctions typically include talk shows (interviews and discussions), variety shows (musical or comedic performances), game shows (competitions with prizes), reality shows (unscripted contestants in tasks or living situations), talent shows (auditions and performances), and documentary or magazine programs (in-depth reporting).

Production and distribution involve networks, cable channels, or independent producers. Tévéshow are distributed through traditional television schedules and increasingly through streaming platforms. International sales, dubbing or subtitling, and online clips often accompany modern distribution, extending reach beyond the original market. The term emphasizes the televised format as a product and experience, rather than a single, discrete program.
