Tähtiryhmiin

Tähtiryhmiin refers to star clusters, which are groups of stars that are gravitationally bound to each other. These clusters are important tools for astronomers because the stars within them generally formed at the same time from the same giant cloud of gas and dust. This shared origin means that the stars in a cluster are similar in age and chemical composition, making them ideal for studying stellar evolution.

There are two main types of star clusters: open clusters and globular clusters. Open clusters are typically found in the disk of a galaxy and contain a few hundred to a few thousand stars. They are relatively young and loosely bound. Examples include the Pleiades and the Hyades. Globular clusters, on the other hand, are much older and more massive, containing hundreds of thousands to millions of stars. They are found in the halo of a galaxy and are tightly bound by gravity, forming a spherical shape. The Hercules cluster and Omega Centauri are well-known globular clusters.

By studying the stars within these clusters, astronomers can trace the history and evolution of our galaxy and others. The differences in the ages and compositions of stars in various clusters provide clues about the conditions in the early universe and how galaxies have changed over time. The distribution of star clusters also helps map the structure of galaxies.
