Tvaluetype

Tvaluetype is a conceptual descriptor used in some dynamic language runtimes to classify the kind of data held by a generic value container. It serves as a lightweight tag that enables fast type checks, dispatch, and correct interpretation of the underlying payload. In this sense, Tvaluetype supports dynamic typing while allowing the runtime to reason about values in a uniform way.

In typical designs, a Tvaluetype combines a type tag with a payload. The type tag indicates the category of the value (for example, nil, boolean, number, string, object, function, or user-defined data), while the payload stores or references the actual data. The combination allows a single value container to represent a wide range of data without requiring separate storage for every type. Memory layouts are often optimized for compactness and quick comparison, with some implementations using a union-like payload paired with a small fixed tag.

Dynamic dispatch and reflection are facilitated by inspecting the tag, while conversions between compatible types can be implemented as explicit or implicit rules in the language semantics.
