Tuumajõudusreaktorid, also known as nuclear propulsion reactors, are a type of nuclear reactor specifically designed to generate power for the propulsion of vehicles, most notably ships and submarines. Unlike terrestrial nuclear power plants that generate electricity for a grid, these reactors are built for mobile applications, requiring robust designs that can withstand the stresses of movement and operate reliably in diverse environments.

The core principle behind a tuumajõudusreaktor is nuclear fission. Heavy atomic nuclei, typically uranium, are split in a controlled chain reaction, releasing a significant amount of thermal energy.
