Tustinin

Tustinin is a village and administrative commune in the central highlands of Valoria. It lies on the banks of the Tust River, about 60 kilometers north of Valoria City, and is surrounded by rolling farmland and pine forests. The commune has a resident population of roughly 2,800 and serves as a local service center for several surrounding hamlets.

The name Tustinin is believed to derive from an old Valorian word meaning meeting place or crossroads, with the -in suffix denoting a locality. Local legends tie the name to a historic assembly site near the river bend.

The settlement originated in the 14th century as a farming outpost. It gained a regular market in the 15th century and grew modestly in the early modern era. A narrow-gauge railway reached Tustinin in the late 19th century, linking it to larger towns and stimulating crafts and trade. Electrification followed in the mid-20th century.

Economy and demographics. Agriculture remains the backbone, with cereals, dairy, and orchard products. Forestry and small-scale manufacturing supplement incomes. The population is predominantly Valorian-speaking, with a small Rinari minority in the eastern districts.

The town hosts the annual Tustinin Fair in late spring, featuring crafts, foods, and music. Public institutions include a municipal library, a primary school, and a combined middle-high school. The Church of St. Elian is a local landmark.

Governance and transport. Tustinin is governed by a mayor and a nine-member municipal council. It is connected by regional roads and lies near a rail spur that links to the wider network. Hospitals and higher education facilities are located in nearby towns.
