Turisas

Turisas is a Finnish metal band formed in 1997 in Finland. They are known for integrating symphonic metal with folk elements and Viking-inspired imagery, often described as "battle metal" for its grand, historical scope and theatrical presentation.

The band's music features orchestral keyboards, choral sections, fast guitar lines, and occasional traditional instruments such as violin and accordion. Vocals range from operatic and harsh to spoken-word passages, creating a dynamic, cinematic sound.

Turisas released Battle Metal in 2004, a debut that established their symphonic-battle sound, followed by The Varangian Way in 2007, a concept album about the Varangian Guard of the Byzantine Empire. Stand Up and Fight appeared in 2011, and the self-titled Turisas album released in 2013 continued their expansive, anthemic style.

Live performances contributed to their international recognition, with appearances at European festivals and tours in North America; their shows often emphasize historical themes, costumes, and prop-driven stagecraft.

They are part of the European metal scene that blends metal with folk and mythic storytelling. The band has undergone lineup changes over the years; their discography also includes EPs and singles.
