Tukanoan-speaking refers to communities and individuals who speak languages belonging to the Tukanoan language family, a group of languages spoken in the Northwest Amazon. Tukanoan-speaking peoples are concentrated in the Amazonian lowlands of western Brazil and eastern Colombia, with the largest settlements along river systems in the Colombia–Brazil border region, including areas around the Vaupés basin. In these communities, language use is linked to social identity, ritual life, and intergroup interaction.
