Tubarãotigre

Tubarãotigre, scientific name Galeocerdo cuvier, is a large species of requiem shark in the family Carcharhinidae. It is the only extant member of the genus Galeocerdo. Known for its distinctive stripes that resemble tiger markings, especially when young, the tiger shark is found in tropical and warm temperate waters worldwide. It prefers to inhabit areas near coastlines and coral reefs, though it is also found in deeper waters.

The tiger shark is a solitary and nocturnal hunter, with a diverse diet that includes fish, seals, turtles, sea snakes, seabirds, squid, and even other sharks. It is an opportunistic predator and is known for its wide gape and ability to consume a variety of prey. Its teeth are uniquely serrated and angled, ideal for slicing through tough materials.

Adult tiger sharks can grow up to 5.5 meters (18 feet) in length, with females generally being larger than males. They are viviparous, meaning they give birth to live young. Litter sizes can vary, but are typically between 10 and 35 pups.

Considered a potentially dangerous shark to humans due to its size, strong bite, and indiscriminate feeding habits, the tiger shark is responsible for a significant number of shark attacks, although these are rare. Conservation efforts are ongoing as tiger shark populations face threats from overfishing and habitat degradation.
