Trükkimisprotsessil refers to the printing process in Estonian. It encompasses a wide range of techniques and technologies used to reproduce images and text on various materials, most commonly paper. The fundamental goal of any printing process is to transfer ink or other coloring agents from a printing plate or other medium onto a substrate.

Historically, the earliest forms of printing were woodblock printing, developed in East Asia, and later, Gutenberg's invention of movable type in Europe. These methods laid the groundwork for mass production of written materials. Modern printing encompasses several major categories. Offset printing is a widely used commercial method that involves transferring ink from a plate to a rubber blanket and then to the printing surface, ensuring excellent image quality and efficiency for large print runs. Digital printing, including inkjet and laser printing, has revolutionized shorter runs and variable data printing, allowing for customization and on-demand production without the need for traditional printing plates.

Other significant printing methods include gravure printing, which uses an etched cylinder for high-volume, high-quality reproduction, and flexography, often used for packaging and labels, employing flexible relief plates. The choice of printing process depends on factors such as the desired print quality, the volume of the print run, the type of substrate being used, and cost considerations. Each method involves specific inks, substrates, and machinery, all contributing to the final printed product.
