Trochaill

Trochaill is a coastal city and administrative center on the northern archipelago of the fictional realm of Eirath. Located in a natural harbor protected by limestone headlands, the city serves as a regional hub for trade, fisheries, and maritime services, blending medieval street plans with later architecture.

The name Trochaill is traced to the archipelago's pre-settlement language, combining elements interpreted as watch and harbor. The city sits at the mouth of the Gael River, facing a sheltered bay. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and frequent rainfall.

Trochaill traces its origins to a 12th-century trading post founded by seafaring families. It grew as a crossroads for merchants and developed a guild economy and citadel. In the 14th and 15th centuries, corsair raids prompted fortification. The town later came under the Eirathese crown and, in the early 19th century, became a provincial capital. Industrialization followed, with shipyards and fish-processing facilities.

Today Trochaill has an estimated population of 24,000, comprising coastal families, dockworkers, and service workers. Its economy centers on fishing, seafood processing, ship repair, and port logistics, with growing tourism around the harbor, markets, and maritime museum. A small university campus serves the region.

Governance rests with a city council headed by a mayor, within a regional assembly. Trochaill maintains sister-city ties and hosts the annual Harbor Festival, showcasing seafood cuisine and ship-modeling crafts. Notable landmarks include the Old Gate, Tidewatch Tower, and the maritime museum.
