Tridimensjonal

Tridimensjonal describes anything that has or relates to three spatial dimensions: length, width, and height. In Norwegian usage, it corresponds to the English term three-dimensional or 3D. Objects with tridimensional extent occupy volume and have depth, unlike two-dimensional objects that lie on a plane.

In mathematics and physics, tridimensional space is modeled as three-dimensional Euclidean space, often denoted R^3. A point is given by coordinates (x, y, z), and distances follow the 3D version of the Pythagorean theorem: d = sqrt((x2−x1)^2 + (y2−y1)^2 + (z2−z1)^2). Volume measures tridimensional extent, and orientation is described by rotations in three dimensions using matrices or quaternions.

In computer graphics and digital media, tridimensional refers to 3D modeling, rendering, and animation. Scenes are built from 3D models comprised of vertices, edges, and faces forming meshes. These models are transformed and projected onto a 2D image plane; lighting, shading, texture mapping, and perspective create the illusion of depth.

In display and perception, tridimensional depth can be conveyed through stereoscopy, parallax, perspective cues, and sometimes autostereoscopic techniques that do not require glasses. Real-world depth is also captured in volumetric imaging in medicine and science.

Applications span architecture, product design, film and game industries, medicine, geosciences, and manufacturing, including 3D printing, which creates physical tridimensional objects from digital models.
