Tribomaterials are a class of materials specifically designed or selected for their performance in tribological applications. Tribology is the science and engineering of interacting surfaces in relative motion, encompassing friction, wear, and lubrication. Therefore, tribomaterials are crucial for reducing energy loss, preventing material degradation, and extending the lifespan of mechanical components.

The selection of tribomaterials depends heavily on the specific operating conditions, such as load, speed, temperature, and the presence of lubricants or contaminants.
