Trefjar

Trefjar is a village in the fictional Nordic country of Nordis, located in the inland valley between pine forests and the Vestri River. As of 2023, it had an estimated population of about 1,150. The name derives from the Old Norse tref, meaning "tree," a reference to the surrounding woodland that shaped its early economy.

The landscape consists of rolling hills, mixed forests, and moraine soils. The Vestri River provides water for agriculture and historically for timber transport. Trefjar is connected by a rural road network to markets in nearby towns. The climate is temperate with cold winters.

Settlement likely emerged in the late medieval period around forestry and fishery. It grew with the timber trade during the early modern period; a rural road network connected it to larger towns, and a narrow-gauge railway reached Trefjar in the early 20th century, stimulating development.

The local economy remains forestry and wood processing, with dairy farming and rural tourism. The village is governed by a municipal council within Nordis Rural Municipality. Public services include a primary school, a community library, and a small clinic.

Notable sites include Trefjar Church, built in the 19th century; the nearby Trefjar Forest Reserve; and the remnants of an old sawmill. Cultural life centers on annual events such as the Harvest Festival and a summer market, organized by the village council and local associations.
