Transudaattiksi

Transudaattiksi is a term used in medical contexts, particularly in pathology and diagnostics, to describe a specific type of fluid that can accumulate in body cavities. This fluid is characterized by its low protein and low specific gravity content. It is essentially a filtrate of blood plasma that passes through intact capillary walls. The formation of transudate is typically due to increased hydrostatic pressure within the blood vessels or decreased oncotic pressure, which is the osmotic pressure exerted by proteins in the blood.

Common conditions that lead to the accumulation of transudate include congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and nephrotic syndrome. In congestive heart failure, the heart's inability to pump blood effectively leads to a buildup of pressure in the venous system, forcing fluid out into surrounding tissues or cavities like the pleural space (pleural effusion) or the peritoneal cavity (ascites). Liver cirrhosis can reduce the production of albumin, a key protein responsible for maintaining oncotic pressure, leading to fluid leakage. Similarly, nephrotic syndrome involves significant protein loss in the urine, which also lowers oncotic pressure.

The appearance of transudate is usually clear, pale yellow, and watery. Distinguishing transudate from exudate, another type of pathological fluid, is crucial for diagnosis and treatment. Exudate, in contrast, is typically formed due to inflammation or infection and has a higher protein content and specific gravity. Laboratory analysis of the fluid's protein and lactate dehydrogenase levels, along with its specific gravity, helps differentiate between these two fluid types, guiding further medical management.
