Transportpaletten

Transportpaletten, also known as transport pallets or simply pallets, are a structural flat deck designed to support goods in a stable fashion while being lifted by a forklift, pallet jack, or other jacking device. Pallets are the backbone of the logistics and shipping industry, enabling efficient movement and storage of goods.

The most common type of pallet is made of wood, often pine or oak, due to its availability, low cost, and recyclability. Wooden pallets are robust and can be repaired if damaged. Plastic pallets are another popular option, offering durability, resistance to moisture and chemicals, and ease of cleaning. They are often more expensive upfront but can have a longer lifespan and lower overall cost of ownership. Metal pallets, typically made of steel, are used for very heavy loads or in harsh environments where durability and fire resistance are paramount.

Pallets come in various standard sizes to accommodate different transport systems and regional preferences. The most common size in Europe is the EUR pallet (800 x 1200 mm), while North America predominantly uses the GMA pallet (40 x 48 inches or approximately 1016 x 1219 mm). The design of a pallet allows for easy access by handling equipment, facilitating rapid loading and unloading of trucks, trains, and ships. Their use has significantly reduced handling times and the risk of product damage compared to manual handling.
