Translationsvektoren

Translationsvektoren, often shortened to translations, are fundamental concepts in geometry and linear algebra. A translationsvektor is a vector that represents a translation, which is a type of rigid transformation that moves every point of an object by the same distance in the same direction. Essentially, it describes how an object is shifted without any rotation or scaling.

In a two-dimensional space, a translationsvektor can be represented as an ordered pair of numbers, such as (x, y). The first number, x, indicates the horizontal displacement, and the second number, y, indicates the vertical displacement. For example, a translationsvektor of (3, -2) would move a point 3 units to the right and 2 units down. In three-dimensional space, a translationsvektor would be represented by a triplet (x, y, z), specifying displacements along the x, y, and z axes respectively.

The application of a translationsvektor to a point or a set of points is straightforward. If you have a point P with coordinates (px, py) and a translationsvektor T = (tx, ty), the translated point P' will have coordinates (px + tx, py + ty). This operation is also known as vector addition.
