Tranio

Tranio is a character in William Shakespeare's play "The Taming of the Shrew." He is the witty and loyal servant of Lucentio, who is in love with Bianca. Tranio plays a crucial role in the plot by impersonating Lucentio in order to woo Bianca on his master's behalf. This deception is necessary because Bianca's father, Baptista, has forbidden any suitor from proposing to her until her older sister, Katherina, is married.

When Lucentio arrives in Padua, disguised as a schoolmaster named Cambio, he instructs Tranio to take on his own identity and court Bianca.
