Torxhead
Torxhead is a term that refers to a specific type of screw head design. It is characterized by a six-pointed star-shaped recess. This design, also known as a star drive or a six-lobe, was developed by Camcar Textron in the 1960s as an improvement over traditional slotted or Phillips head screws. The primary advantage of the Torxhead design is its increased torque transfer capability and reduced cam-out, which is the tendency for the driver to slip out of the screw head during tightening or loosening. This makes it particularly useful in applications where high torque is required or where precise control is necessary. The unique shape of the Torxhead recess is designed to provide a tight fit with its corresponding driver, minimizing play and preventing damage to both the screw and the tool. Torx screws are widely used in various industries, including automotive, electronics, and construction, due to their reliability and efficiency. The Torxhead design has also been adapted into variations like Torx Plus and Security Torx, which offer even greater resistance to cam-out and tamper-proofing, respectively.
