Torvlagene, translated as peat layers, are stratified deposits formed in peat bogs where plant material accumulates under waterlogged, oxygen-poor conditions. Over centuries and millennia, layers of partially decomposed vegetation, primarily mosses such as Sphagnum, along with roots, leaves, and occasional wood fragments, build up to create a peat succession. Formation and characteristics
