Torjägerlisten

Torjägerlisten are rankings of football players by the number of goals they have scored in a competition, most commonly a season in a league. The term is used in German-speaking media and among fans to describe the top scorers lists of competitions. The noun Torjäger translates as "goal hunter," and Liste means "list." It is closely related to, but sometimes distinct from, the term Torschützenliste, which also denotes goalscorers; in practice both terms are used interchangeably in many contexts. The award associated with the top scorer is often called the Torjägerkanone (goal scorer cannon).

Data are compiled by the competition's organizing body or official statisticians and cover all competitive matches, typically excluding own goals and friendly matches. In domestic leagues such as Germany's Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, Austria's Austrian Bundesliga, and Switzerland's Super League, the Torjägerliste is published at the end of the season and sometimes updated during the season. Besides league seasons, Torjägerlisten may exist for domestic cup competitions and international tournaments. The top scorer may receive a prize or honorary recognition, regardless of league.

Because rankings are defined by the governing body, tie-break rules vary: if two players score the same number of goals, leagues may apply different criteria, such as fewest matches, most assists, head-to-head records, or playoff goals, as defined by the competition's regulations.

Torjägerlisten exist for national leagues, domestic cups, and international competitions. They form part of the broader statistical reporting in football and provide a historical record of scoring prowess across players and eras.
