Topocuviruses

Topocuviruses are a family of viruses in the order Tubulavirales. They are characterized by their long, filamentous or pleomorphic particles. The virions are enveloped and contain a single-stranded RNA genome of negative sense. The genetic material is segmented, meaning it is divided into multiple RNA molecules.

These viruses primarily infect plants and are known to cause a variety of diseases. Symptoms in infected plants can include mosaic patterns on leaves, stunting, yellowing, and malformation of fruits and flowers. The exact mechanisms of pathogenesis vary depending on the specific topocuvirus species and the host plant.

Transmission of topocuviruses typically occurs through insect vectors, most commonly aphids, which acquire the virus by feeding on infected plants and then transmit it to healthy ones during subsequent feeding.
