In essence, the topdown approach starts with the big picture, defining the ultimate goal or objective. Once this high-level vision is established, it is progressively refined and detailed. Each step involves dividing the broader objective into progressively smaller, more manageable sub-objectives or tasks. This process continues until the individual components are small enough to be easily understood, assigned, and executed.

The advantages of a topdown approach include a clear understanding of the overall goals and a structured method for achieving them. It helps in maintaining focus on the ultimate objective throughout the process. However, it can sometimes lead to overlooking critical details at lower levels or a lack of flexibility if initial high-level decisions are flawed and difficult to change.
