Tootmiskvaliteet, or manufacturability, is a concept in industrial engineering that describes how easily and cost-effectively a product can be manufactured using current processes, equipment, and skilled labor while satisfying its functional and quality requirements. It encompasses the design, material choices, tolerances, assembly methods, and the planned production system that make manufacturing feasible at scale.

Key factors influencing tootmiskvaliteet include design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles, standardization and modularization of components, choice of materials and finishes, tolerances and process capabilities, tooling and setup times, and the robustness of the supply chain. Early consideration of these factors during product development can reduce revisions, scrap, and rework, while shortening lead times and lowering costs.

Assessment methods vary from qualitative design reviews to quantitative analyses and pilot runs. Common metrics used to gauge manufacturability include yield and first-pass yield, scrap and rework rates, cycle times, setup and changeover times, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). These metrics help compare design options, estimate production costs, and identify risks.

Tootmiskvaliteet is closely linked to broader quality and operations concepts, such as ISO 9001, Six Sigma, and Lean manufacturing. It informs decisions about feature sets, tolerances, and production technology, balancing performance, reliability, and cost. In practice, improving manufacturability often involves trade-offs between product functionality and ease of manufacturing, with the aim of achieving scalable, repeatable, and economical production.
