The company is widely associated with its waterproof leather boots, particularly the 6-inch premium waterproof boot that became iconic after its introduction in 1973. Timberland traces its origins to 1952, when The Abington Shoe Company was founded by Nathan Swartz in Massachusetts. The business evolved through family ownership and brand development, and the Timberland name was adopted in the 1970s with the launch of the signature boot. In 2011, Timberland was acquired by VF Corporation and continues to operate as a global brand under VF, maintaining its emphasis on durability and outdoor performance.
