Absolute time references, such as *kello kolme* ("at three o'clock") or *joulu* ("Christmas"), indicate specific moments or dates. Relative time expressions, like *ennen* ("before") or *jälkeen* ("after"), relate events to one another rather than to a fixed point in time.
