Tiivin

Tiivin is a constructed language developed by the Tiivin Community for use in a fictional world and in linguistic experimentation. The project began in the early 2010s and has grown through collaboration among hobbyist linguists, writers, and role-playing communities. Tiivin is designed to be regular and expressive, with attention to worldbuilding needs.

Phonology and writing: Tiivin uses a Latin-based alphabet with a small set of diacritics to indicate vowel quality and palatalization. The phonemic inventory includes the consonants p, t, k, m, n, s, r, l, f, v, h, and the vowels a, e, i, o, u. The language is non-tonal, with primary stress on the penultimate syllable.

Grammar and syntax: Tiivin is largely agglutinative. Nouns inflect for number with a plural suffix and for case with post-nominal endings (nominative, accusative, dative, genitive). Verbs encode tense and aspect with suffixes and also mark person. The typical sentence order is subject–verb–object; adjectives generally follow the nouns they modify.

Lexicon and usage: The lexicon covers everyday concepts, with a number of loanwords from the fictional world and specialized terms for storytelling, ritual, and technology. The language supports expressive word formation through productive affixes.

Community and status: The Tiivin project maintains a public grammar, a learner’s dictionary, and a growing written corpus. It remains community-driven, with no native speakers; it is used for worldbuilding, role-playing, and linguistic experimentation, and is periodically updated by contributors.
