Tietoturvapäällikkö, known in English as a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) or Head of Information Security, is a senior-level executive responsible for an organization's information security. This role is crucial in today's digital landscape where data breaches and cyber threats are increasingly prevalent.

The primary objective of a tietoturvapäällikkö is to protect the organization's information assets, including sensitive data, intellectual property, and critical systems, from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction. They achieve this by developing and implementing comprehensive security strategies, policies, and procedures.

Key responsibilities include risk assessment and management, identifying potential vulnerabilities, and implementing measures to mitigate them. They oversee the establishment and maintenance of security controls, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption. Furthermore, the tietoturvapäällikkö is responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to data security and privacy.

This role also involves managing security incidents, including developing incident response plans, leading investigations, and coordinating recovery efforts. They are responsible for educating employees on security best practices and fostering a security-conscious culture within the organization. Budget management for security initiatives and the selection and management of security vendors are also typically part of their duties. The tietoturvapäällikkö often reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) or directly to the CEO, highlighting the strategic importance of their function.
