Thoresens

Thoresens were a group of steamships built by the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company, a shipyard based in Blackwall, London, England. The company was responsible for constructing several vessels for the Navigation Company, which operated a series of paddle steamer routes along the British coast and to European cities. One of the most notable vessels built by the Thames Ironworks for the Navigation Company was the steamship Thoresen.

The Thoresen was one of the largest and most luxurious passenger vessels in operation at the time, with a gross tonnage of 2,180 and a capacity for approximately 1,500 passengers. The Thoresen was launched in 1868 and was intended for long-distance voyages, including routes from London to the French port of Calais. She was equipped with a double-ended paddle steamer engine and four boilers.

Thoresen's routes included regular sailings from London to and from other major European ports, including Calais, Boulogne, and Liverpool. The steamship was highly acclaimed for its amenities, including first-class accommodations and dining areas, as well as second-class seating and simpler food options for the majority of the passengers.

The Thoresen's arm is known for helping to establish the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company as a prominent figure in the history of mass transportation in Europe. However, little is known about the Thoresen vessels of the Comprehensive Net Operation and their legacy is not widely discussed.
