Thiasos
Thiasos, plural thiasoi, is a Greek term for a cultic company or procession associated with a deity, most often Dionysus. The word denotes a living entourage composed to perform ritual actions, sometimes a temporary festival band and sometimes the regular cult retinue of a city or sanctuary. In ancient Greek religion, a thiasos could accompany a god’s statue in procession, participate in ecstatic rites, and organize communal feasting and libations. The concept emphasizes the communal and performative aspects of worship, rather than individual devotion alone.
