Thebmp

Thebmp is a file format used for storing bitmap images. It is a raster graphics image file format used to store bitmap digital images, and is independent of the graphics adapter. The format was developed by Microsoft and is widely supported by Windows operating systems and various image editing software. The name "bmp" comes from "bitmap".

BMP files can store images in various color depths, including monochrome, 16 colors, 256 colors, and 24-bit true color. The file structure of a BMP image consists of a file header, an information header, a color palette (if applicable), and the pixel data. The file header contains general information about the file, such as its size and type. The information header provides details about the image itself, including its dimensions, color depth, and compression method.

BMP files are typically uncompressed, which means they can result in large file sizes, especially for high-resolution images. However, some BMP variants support simple run-length encoding (RLE) compression, which can reduce file size for images with large areas of solid color. Due to their simplicity and wide compatibility, BMP files are often used for basic image storage and editing. They are not generally preferred for web use due to their size.
