Thaispeaking refers to the use of the Thai language, the national language of Thailand. It is a tonal language belonging to the Tai-Kadai language family and is written using the Thai alphabet, which is an abugida. Thai speakers are found primarily in Thailand, where it is the official language spoken by the vast majority of the population. There are also significant Thai-speaking communities in neighboring countries like Laos and Cambodia, as well as diaspora communities in countries such as the United States, China, and Australia.

The pronunciation of Thai is characterized by its five tones, which can distinguish the meaning of words that are otherwise spelled identically. For example, the syllable "maa" can have five different meanings depending on the tone used: high, mid, low, falling, or rising. This tonal nature is a key feature of Thaispeaking and can present a learning challenge for non-native speakers. The vocabulary of Thai has been influenced by Sanskrit, Pali, and Khmer, reflecting historical and cultural interactions. Modern Thai incorporates a significant number of loanwords from English.
