Textura

Textura is a term with multiple uses across art, music, and business. In Latin, textura originally referred to weaving and, by extension, the texture of fabric. In modern usage, textura denotes the surface quality of a material, whether tactile or visual, and is a common term in art, design, textile manufacture, and computer graphics.

In musicology, textura designates a specific texture found in late medieval and early Renaissance polyphony. It is described as a densely woven polyphonic texture in which the voices move with a similar rhythm, producing a continuous, interlaced sound. The texture is associated with the transitional period between plainchant and more fully developed polyphony and is discussed by theorists as an important step in the evolution of Western musical style.

In business and industry, Textura is used as a brand or product name. The most notable instance is Textura Corporation, a software company that provided cloud-based procurement, invoicing, and supplier management for the construction sector; it was acquired by Oracle Corporation in 2013. The name is also used by other companies and products in areas such as textiles, digital media, and software, reflecting its generic association with surface quality and weave.
