Tevékenységmezgazdaság, often translated as activity-based economics or activity economics, is a theoretical framework that analyzes economic activity by focusing on the fundamental actions or "activities" that constitute economic processes. It shifts the perspective from traditional factors like capital, labor, or goods, to the underlying tasks and operations. This approach suggests that the true economic value lies in the performance of these activities.

The core idea is to deconstruct complex economic phenomena into their constituent parts. For instance, instead of just looking at a manufactured car, activity-based economics would examine the specific activities involved in its creation: design, material procurement, assembly, quality control, marketing, and distribution. Each of these activities has its own costs, resource requirements, and potential for improvement.

This perspective is particularly useful for understanding and managing costs, as it allows for a more granular allocation of expenses to the activities that actually generate them. It can also inform strategic decision-making by highlighting which activities are most critical to an organization's success and which might be candidates for outsourcing, automation, or elimination. By understanding the dynamics of individual activities, businesses can optimize their entire operational chain.

While not a widely adopted standalone economic theory in the same vein as mainstream macroeconomics, the principles of activity-based economics have found application in areas like management accounting, process improvement, and strategic management. It emphasizes the importance of understanding the "how" of economic creation, not just the "what."
