Teslameters

A teslameter is an instrument used to measure magnetic field strength. It quantifies the magnetic flux density, with the SI unit for this measurement being the tesla (T). Other units like gauss (G) are also commonly used, with 1 tesla equaling 10,000 gauss.

Teslameters typically employ a Hall effect sensor or a magnetoresistive sensor. A Hall effect sensor relies on the Hall voltage produced when a current-carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field. The magnitude of this voltage is directly proportional to the magnetic field strength. Magnetoresistive sensors change their electrical resistance in response to an applied magnetic field.

These devices are essential in various scientific and industrial applications. They are used in research laboratories to study magnetic phenomena, in manufacturing to calibrate magnetic components like motors and transformers, and in quality control to ensure consistent magnetic properties of materials. Teslameters are also employed in medical imaging for MRI machines and in automotive systems for position sensing.
