Terveydenhoitokäyntejä, often translated as health visitor visits or public health nurse visits, are a fundamental part of the Finnish social and healthcare system. These visits are primarily conducted by public health nurses (terveydenhoitajat) and are offered to families with young children, particularly during pregnancy and the first few years of a child's life. The goal is to support child health and development, provide guidance to parents, and detect potential health issues early.

During pregnancy, health visitor visits focus on the expectant mother's well-being, providing information about pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood. After the baby is born, regular home visits and clinic appointments are scheduled. These visits include monitoring the child's growth and development, offering advice on breastfeeding, nutrition, sleep, and general care. They also serve as an opportunity to administer vaccinations according to the national immunization schedule.
