Teräväpiirron

Teräväpiirto, commonly known in English as high definition (HD), refers to a video resolution that is significantly higher than standard definition (SD). This increased resolution results in a sharper, more detailed, and clearer image. While there isn't a single, universally agreed-upon definition for all forms of teräväpiirto, it generally encompasses resolutions such as 720p and 1080p.

The "p" in 720p and 1080p stands for progressive scan, meaning that each frame is displayed in its entirety, line by line, in a single pass. This contrasts with interlaced scanning, where odd and even lines are displayed in alternating fields, which can sometimes lead to motion artifacts. Teräväpiirto broadcast standards typically include 720p (1280 pixels wide by 720 pixels tall) and 1080p (1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall). Higher resolutions, such as 4K (3840 pixels wide by 2160 pixels tall), are sometimes referred to as ultra-high definition (UHD), but can also be considered a form of advanced teräväpiirto.

The adoption of teräväpiirto technology has revolutionized television broadcasting, cinema, and digital media. It allows for a much richer visual experience, making details that were previously indistinct suddenly apparent. This has impacted everything from sports broadcasts, where viewers can see the stitching on a ball, to documentaries, where subtle textures and nuances of nature are more vividly displayed. The development of teräväpiirto has gone hand-in-hand with advancements in display technology, such as LCD, LED, and OLED screens, which are capable of reproducing these higher resolutions effectively.
