Temppeliaukio
Temppeliaukio, also called the Rock Church, is a small Lutheran place of worship situated in the Kallio district of Helsinki, Finland. The name is Finnish for “rock worship” and refers to the building’s unique construction: it is carved directly into a solid glacial rock outcrop that was originally a quarry. The church was completed in 1969 after a design competition won by the Finnish architect Jussi Karhinen with a concept heavily influenced by a desire for a natural, intimate atmosphere.
