Temporokortikalen
Temporokortikalen, or temporo-cortical tissue, is a term used to describe the cortical regions of the temporal lobe in the brain and the networks they form. It encompasses the neocortical areas located in the temporal lobe, including the superior, middle, and inferior temporal gyri and the temporal pole, and it is involved in a variety of sensory, linguistic, and mnemonic functions. The primary auditory cortex lies within the transverse temporal gyrus (Heschl’s gyrus) in the temporal lobe and serves as the initial cortical processor of sound. The posterior part of the superior temporal gyrus is associated with language comprehension, a region often linked to Wernicke’s area in the left hemisphere. The temporal lobes also contribute to visual object recognition via the inferior temporal gyrus and to semantic processing through the anterior temporal cortex. The temporokortikalen forms extensive connections with frontal language areas, parietal regions, occipital association cortices, and limbic structures, enabling integrated processing of sound, meaning, and memory.
Functions of the temporokortikalen include auditory processing, language comprehension, memory encoding and retrieval, and aspects of
