Templatsträngar

Templatsträngar, often referred to as template literals or template strings, are a feature in JavaScript that provides an easier way to create strings, especially those involving embedded expressions or multiline text. Introduced in ECMAScript 2015 (ES6), they are enclosed by backticks (`) instead of single or double quotes.

One of the primary advantages of templatsträngar is their ability to perform string interpolation. This means you can embed expressions directly within the string by placing them inside a `${expression}` syntax. When the string is evaluated, the expression is executed, and its result is converted to a string and inserted at that position. This eliminates the need for cumbersome string concatenation using the `+` operator.

Another significant benefit is the support for multiline strings without the use of special characters. In traditional JavaScript strings, creating a multiline string requires either using the newline character `\n` or concatenating multiple strings. Templatsträngar allow you to simply press Enter within the backticks, and the newline character will be preserved in the resulting string. This makes the code more readable and maintains the intended formatting of the string.

Templatsträngar can also be used for tagged templates. A tagged template is an advanced feature where a function is placed before the template literal. This function receives the string parts and the evaluated expressions as arguments, allowing for custom processing of the string. This capability opens up possibilities for domain-specific languages, string manipulation, and more.
