Telpatronen

Telpatronen is a Dutch term used in historical telecommunications literature to refer to modular patterns or cartridges used in telecommunication equipment to configure, test, or automate functions. The exact meaning varied by context, but the word is often found in archival manuals and equipment catalogs from the mid-20th century in the Netherlands and Belgium. "Tel" derives from telefoon or tele-; "patronen" can mean patterns, templates, or cartridges.

Historically, telpatronen could be physical cartridges containing preset circuitry, plug-in modules, punched cards, or punched-tape patterns representing commands or data for telex machines, dial switches, or maintenance test gear. They enabled reuse of common configurations or sequences without reassembling circuitry each time.

As telecommunications moved to digital electronics and software-configured systems, the use of telpatronen diminished; the term today appears mainly in historical contexts or archival references. Modern equipment uses software configuration, ROMs, and digital storage rather than physical pattern cartridges.
