Televisiolähetysten refers to the broadcasts transmitted via television. These transmissions are signals carrying audio and video information that are received by television sets. Satellite broadcasting involves transmitting signals from ground stations to satellites, which then relay them back to Earth for reception by satellite dishes. Cable television distributes signals through a network of cables, often connecting directly to homes.

The content of television broadcasts is diverse, ranging from news and current affairs to entertainment programs like dramas, comedies, and reality shows. Sports events, documentaries, educational programming, and children's shows also form a significant part of television schedules. Broadcasters typically operate under licenses granted by regulatory authorities. The development of streaming services has introduced new models of content delivery, but traditional scheduled television broadcasts remain a primary form of media consumption for many.
