Telelinser

Telelinser is a term used in photography to describe telephoto lenses—lenses with long focal lengths that magnify distant subjects. They produce a narrow field of view and greater image magnification, allowing photographers to frame far-away scenes without moving closer.

Telelinser come as prime telephotos with fixed focal lengths (for example 300mm or 400mm) and as zoom telephotos that cover ranges such as 70–200mm or 100–400mm. They often include features such as image stabilization, fast autofocus, and designs to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations. The aperture determines light intake and depth of field; wide apertures yield shallow depth of field, while stopping down increases depth of field.

Key considerations when selecting include compatibility with camera mount and sensor size, weight and balance, weather sealing, and optical quality. On crop-sensor bodies, the apparent field of view is narrowed further due to the crop factor. Teleconverters (extenders) can increase reach (1.4x, 2x) but reduce light and AF performance.

Uses: telelinser are common in wildlife and sports photography, aviation, and distant portraiture, where reaching subjects at a distance is important. They are produced by major brands such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, and by third-party makers like Sigma and Tamron.
