Tekitatavaid

Tekitatavaid is a grammatical form in the Estonian language derived from the verb tekitama, meaning to create or produce. It is the partitive plural form of the passive participle tekitatav, and it is used to describe objects that are intended to be created or produced.

Morphology and function. The base form tekitatav expresses a state of being “to be created.” In the plural, the nominative form is tekitatavad, the genitive plural is tekitatavate, and the partitive plural is tekitatavaid. The tekitatavaid form is typically used to modify a plural noun in the partitive case, conveying the sense of “things to be created” or “items to be produced.” This construction often appears in technical, planning, or instructional text.

Usage. Tekitatavaid commonly occurs in contexts where deliverables, features, or products are described as objects awaiting creation. Examples include: tekitatavaid tooteid (products to be produced), tekitatavaid funktsioone (functions to be developed), or tekitatavaid toiminguid (steps to be carried out). It helps clearly delineate future work or outputs within a procedural or specification document.

Distinctions. Tekitatavaid should be distinguished from tekitatavate (genitive plural), which marks possession or association in a different grammatical role, and from tekitatav (singular form) used with a singular noun. The combination of tekitatavaid with a plural partitive noun is the common pattern for “things to be created” in plural.
