Teacher-in-training is a person who is preparing to become a teacher by completing an accredited education program and participating in supervised classroom practice. The term encompasses student teachers, pre-service teachers, and individuals enrolled in teacher residency or internship programs. In informal writing and digital contexts, the term may appear as teacherintraining.

Pathways typically require enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in education, with coursework in pedagogy, assessment, classroom management, and subject-specific methods. In many systems, candidates complete a practicum or student-teaching placement in a partnering school under the guidance of a mentor teacher and a university supervisor. Some regions use a teacher residency model, combining paid employment as an apprentice with ongoing university coursework and mentorship.

Responsibilities during training include observing classrooms, planning and delivering lessons under supervision, collecting and analyzing student work, reflecting on practice, and participating in professional development and school activities. They are supervised and assessed, and while they may perform teaching tasks, they typically cannot independently assess or assign grades for licensure until they meet certification requirements. Most jurisdictions require passing professional licensing exams and background checks upon program completion.
