Tavarapyörä

Tavarapyörä, also known as a cargo bike, is a bicycle designed for transporting goods. These bikes often feature a large cargo area, which can be a front-mounted box or platform, a rear rack, or a long wheelbase with integrated cargo space. They are built with stronger frames and components to handle heavier loads than standard bicycles.

Cargo bikes come in various configurations. Some have two wheels, with the cargo area positioned either in front of the rider (often called a "longtail" if the rear is extended) or behind the rider. Others are three-wheeled, with a large box or platform mounted between the two front wheels or behind the single front wheel. The three-wheeled designs, often referred to as "bakfiets" (Dutch for box bike), typically offer greater stability when stationary and carrying heavy loads.

The primary advantage of a tavarapyörä is its capacity to carry significant amounts of cargo or multiple passengers, such as children, in an environmentally friendly and often more efficient manner than a car, especially for short to medium distances within urban environments. They are increasingly used for deliveries by businesses, for family transportation, and by individuals for various hauling needs. Electric-assist versions, known as e-cargo bikes, are also common, making it easier to transport heavier loads or tackle hills.
