Tauren

Tauren are a fictional race of large, humanoid bovines in the Warcraft universe created by Blizzard Entertainment. They are native to the grasslands of Mulgore on the continent of Kalimdor and are characterized by their imposing stature, broad shoulders, horns, and hoofed feet. They tend to live in close connection with the land and place a high value on community and endurance.

Physically, Tauren are tall and powerfully built, with bovine facial features and thick hides. They commonly speak Taur-ahe, their ancestral tongue, and many learn Common to interact with other races. Their daily life blends agriculture, animal husbandry, and spiritual practice, reflecting a deep reverence for nature.

Culture and religion play central roles in Tauren society. They follow a shamanistic and, to some extent, druidic path focused on the Earth Mother, a personified natural force that guides their world view. Totem-based rituals, ancestor reverence, seasonal ceremonies, and communal decision-making are common. Society is organized into clans led by chiefs and elders, with Thunder Bluff serving as their well-known capital, a city built on a series of mesas in Mulgore.

Economy and technology emphasize a semi-nomadic, agrarian lifestyle. Tauren herd large beasts known as kodo for transport and labor and grow crops suited to their climate. They are known for strong hospitality and a warrior ethos when threatened.

In Warcraft lore, Tauren allied with the Orcs to form part of the Horde. Notable figures include Cairne Bloodhoof and Baine Bloodhoof, who have guided their people through various conflicts and alliances.
