Tartásdíj

Tartásdíj is a Hungarian legal term referring to the financial contribution one party is legally obligated to pay to another for support. This obligation typically arises in family law contexts, most commonly in cases of divorce or separation, where one spouse may be required to provide financial support to the other. It can also apply to child support, where a parent is obligated to contribute to the upbringing and maintenance of their child.

The primary purpose of tartásdíj is to ensure a reasonable standard of living for the recipient, particularly when they are unable to support themselves adequately due to factors such as age, illness, disability, or caregiving responsibilities. The amount of tartásdíj is determined by the court, taking into account the financial needs of the recipient and the financial capacity of the obligor. Several factors influence this determination, including income, assets, living expenses, and the duration of the marriage or relationship.

Tartásdíj payments are usually made on a regular basis, often monthly. The duration of the obligation can vary. In cases of child support, it typically continues until the child reaches the age of majority or, in some circumstances, beyond if the child is pursuing further education or is unable to support themselves. For spousal support, the duration can be for a fixed period or indefinite, depending on the specific circumstances of the case.
