Tarares is a fictional country described as a constitutional parliamentary republic on a peninsula with interior highlands and a rugged coast along a temperate sea. The capital is Aeron, and the largest city is Maris. The official language is Tararesan; minority languages include Corvian and Lorne. The population is about 2.4 million.

The terrain includes a central highland spine, forested plateaus, and sheltered bays. The climate is temperate maritime, with wet winters and mild summers. Major rivers include the Nara and Sol, which support towns and agriculture.

Tarares developed as a centralized state in the mid-20th century, adopting a constitutional framework and attaining full sovereignty in 1952 after a peaceful reform movement. Since then, governments have pursued market-oriented reforms, expanding infrastructure and education.
